Calypsonians Vex

State owned DBS Radio has banned “Doctor Finger” sung by Murphy “Sye” Jno Jules and has also quarantined two other songs – Yahima’s “Looking for your Pocket” and Prosper’s “Ma Dominique Garbage Bin“. But both songs have since been examined and released by the radio station.

Calypso Semis This Weekend

Twenty Calypsonians battle at the semi-finals on Saturday. Nine will King Karessah at the LIME Calypso finals on Saturday, February 13.

Here are names of the twenty calypsonians schedule to perform at this weekend semi-final round: Della, Duchess, Tasha P, Daddy Chess, Yakima, Lady Star, Sugar S, Bobb, Checker, Scrunter, Sye, Explosion, Booplay, Ghetto Prince, Soul Puss, Prosper, Triumph, Beno, Mighty Logars, and Observer.

Despite heavy rainfall in the earlier part of Tuesday morning, day two of LIME Creole in the Park when on as scheduled.

Day two started with a cultural performance by Paix Bouche Jing Ping,and was followed by one of Dominica’s young and upcoming bands – SOS Band.

Next on stage was Paix Bouche Cultural Group, followed by Jeff Joe alongside Freddie and Friends entertained the crowd with some sweet Cadance Music. Next on stage was Phase 5 (Steelpan), and to start-up things on a different note was the “super” WCK Band.

In the final performance of the day was the greatly anticipated Carib Calypso Connection session with King Karessah, Dice, Daddy Chess, Hunter, Sye, Observer, and de Energizer; backed up by Dominica’s number one party band – the Swinging Stars Band; who brought down the curtains on day two in the Botanical Gardens.

Well, Creole in the park fans, it’s that time of year again; the 7 Annual Creole in the Park has announced the lineup for this year’s festivities.

With a main stream lineup, which includes Internationally acclaimed Jamaican reggae artist Cecile is set to headline the 7th annual LIME Creole in the Park from October 26 – 29, 2009 at the Botanic Gardens.

This is the first Creole in the Park is staged under the company’s new brand as LIME which was launched approximately one year ago on the last day of CITP in 2008.

Other regional acts scheduled to headline the number one daytime event in Dominica during the Independence celebrations include Ziggy Rankin from Trinidad & Tobago and the Taxik Band featuring Claudette Peters from sister island Antigua. Dominican born reggae artist based in St. Croix Harry Mo, will also travel to Dominica to perform.

This year’s line-up also features a combination of youth and experience and patrons will get the opportunity to view the talents of the islands young and upcoming bands including SOS Band, Kross Vibes and Xcess Groove. The formidable Triple Kay International, Bouyon hustlers MFR, Bouyon pioneers WCK and reggae specialists Caribbean Vibes are back on the line-up this year.

Making their debut is the Fanatik Band who will join Freddie and Friends and the Nature Boys band from Paix Bouche who were notable absentees from last year’s line-up. Cadence legends Chubby and the Midnight Groovers and the longest serving band in Dominica, the Swinging Stars will be on stage during the four day event.

The staple Calypso Connection will feature reigning calypso Monarch Karessah, former kings Dice, Daddy Chess, Observer and Hunter along with 2009 finalist, Sye and 2009 road march king De Energizer. Steel pan, Jing Ping, Lapo Kabwit and cultural performances will also feature prominently on this year’s line-up. This year’s LIME Creole in the Park will take place from 12 noon to 7pm daily.
