Dominica 2011 Carnival Tuesday Costume Parade

The Real Mas 2011 is now something in the past. Like last year, this year’s Carnival Costume Parade was diverse, fun, colourful, political, and commercial; but most importantly it was LOUD and it was ORIGINAL!

I would like give a special shout-out to all the Queen Contestants, Calypsonians, Teens, Princesses, Costume Band Organizers, and everyone else who helped to make the Carnival Costume Parade, and the whole 2011 Carnival Season a great success.

Jacintha Fagan was crowned Miss Dominica 2011 on March 4.

Four-time calypso king Dennison Dice Joseph is the 2011 Champ of the Camp.

Lead singer of the fanatik Band, Carlyn Xavier emerged victorious in the Groovy round of the Soca Monarch competition while Chester “Daddy Chess” Letang retained his crown in the Power round.

17-year-old Nicole Rodriguez from the Isaiah Thomas Secondary school impressed the judges to win the Miss Teen Dominica 2011 crown when the pageant was held at the carnival city on February 27

Tasha P has been crowned queen of the Stardom Tent when the competition was held at the Krazy Kokonuts

De Professor retained his crown as Dominicaâ€™s Junior Monarch for the third year in a row

Takenya Merrifield of Grand Bay won the 2011 Carnival Princess Pageant.

Dominica Carnival 2011 â€“ Opening Parade

Dominica Carnival 2011 kicked into high gear Saturday afternoon with music, floats, and the annual opening parade that piled thousands of Dominicans and visitors alike along the street of Roseau.

Spectators couldnâ€™t off asked for a better day. The weather was beautiful, which provided that requisite tropical heat to go along with the all masquerading going on.

The parade highlighted the colour and splendor of Dominica’s Carnival with a range of costume bands, traditional masquerade groups – like the Flag Wavers, Bwa Bwas, Sensays, HiFi Bands, and the seven beautiful Carnival Queen Contestants including the reigning Carnival Queen Marcia Baptiste were all in attendance.

All in all it was a great opening paradeâ€¦canâ€™t wait for Carnival Monday and Tuesday. Here are some scenes from Dominicaâ€™s â€œReal Masâ€ 2011 â€“ Opening Carnival Parade. Enjoy ❗
