Your Dominica morning news roundup for Friday October 3rd 2008:

We begin this morning brew with Former Prime Minister Edison James, who is asking – Why is David Hsui still Ambassador? Mr. James is calling on Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit to remove Ambassador David Hsui from his position.

If it’s one time I’ve to agree with Mr. James, why would Prime Minister Skerrit have an Ambassador representing Dominica while being in a legal battle with Government? There is something fishy going on.

Now on to the Layou River Hotel mess – accusations, accusations accusations! At this point I believe Dominicans are confused and have no idea who to trust in this matter – weather is the Government, Ambassador Shu, or Business Man Felix Chen.

Felix Chen held a press conference in Dominica Wednesday to discuss the Layou River Hotel liquidation hearing currently being tried in the British Virgin Islands. But Senior Council Anthony Astaphan is accusing Taiwanese national Felix Chen of using the media in Dominica for his personal and political reasons.

Despite the whole the Layou River Hotel mess, Business Man Felix Chen is still interested in partnering with Government to build luxury hotel. But I’ve agree with Senior Council Anthony Astaphan – when he says that “Mr. Chen is simply trying to make the case go his way.”

On the lighter side of this morning brew, a 3-day workshop to enhance the understanding of Whale watch tour guides and operators on the island began Wednesday. The workshop will provide participants the ability to classify various species of whales and dolphins found in Dominican waters and supply them with essential photographic techniques.

I’m happy to see several persons in one way or another playing a part in Dominica’s Tourism industry.

Your Dominica morning news roundup for Wednesday October 1st 2008:

A young man named Jerry Luke took his own life yesterday in his prison cell after being convicted of rape charges and getting a prison term sentence of five years. According to reports Luke hung himself using the string that he wore around his waist.

We allow prisoners to enter the cell wearing any material that could be used in a suicidal attempt …Wow!

Yesterday residents of Coulibistrie stood up against a mining company in order to stop operations. Villagers claim that they are fed up with the quarry industry, and the proximity of the quarry to the village poses serious threat to their health. Minister for Mining Reginald Austrie told the villagers that a Mining License was not granted to the US Company.

Meanwhile, the Physical Planning Division has confirmed granting a permit to US based company Agpit to establish a quarry at Coulibistrie.

Why would a company start quarry work if a Mining License was not granted? Is it just me – but I smell a rat.

Senior Council Anthony Astaphan is calling for the resignation of a Patricia Englis on the Integrity in Public Office (IPO) committee for what he says is conflict of interest. A few days ago, Judith Pestina was elected the new leader of Dominica Freedom Party. Astaphan says IPO member Patricia Englis is the sister of the new Freedom Party Leader Judith Pestina and that could undermine the work of the IPO committee.

Who with no sin – cast the first stone…that’s all I’m saying on this matter.

Did you guys had the opportunity to watch or listen live online to our nature island greatest independence opening show ever at the Windsor Park Stadium. Mann!!! That’s the first time have seen so many Dominicans coming together to celebrate one common cause – making Dominica’s 30 years of Independence grand opening ceremony one most amazing opening ceremony I have every seen! They have set the bar so high that I can’t to see what will happen when it’s time to celebrate 40 years of Independence.

If you were unable to be at the Windsor Park Stadium to watch the opening ceremony, there should be an encore sometime tomorrow or next week by the local television networks. It’s definitely worth watching. If you reside out of Dominica, here are some of photos from the Independence opening ceremony. Enjoy!
