Purely Dominica

We are often so tightly intertwined with our perception of traits, characteristics and how we live our life. As a result it is easy to identify so strongly with a decision that has resulted in unexpected negative consequences that we actually become that “wrong” decision.

We rationalize our “poor” decisions by labeling ourselves incompetent decision-makers.

However, your true identity cannot be defined by your choices. Your essence—what makes you a unique entity—exists independently of your decision-making process.

There is no true right or wrong decisions. All decisions contribute to your development and are an integral part of your evolving existence, yet they are still separate from the self.

We Dominicans on a whole must avoid lingering in the past and mulling over the circumstances that led to our perceived errors in judgment. Instead, let’s adapt to the new circumstances you must face by considering how you can use our intelligence, inner strength, and intuition to aid us in moving forward more mindfully.

Every perceived mistake becomes a valuable learning experience and is, in essence, a gift to learn and grow from it. Something I wish our Politicians here our nature isle would take into account.

Remember, you are not a bad person and you are not your decisions; you are simply human so forgive yourself, and then move forward.

If you’re like me, you’re maybe fed up with humanity, whether it’s from learning about what’s going on around the world, or what’s going on in our own backyard. For some reason there are always situations that leave us feeling as if people are simply incapable of behaving in a way that is coming from a place of understanding.

It seems as if people are only equipped to handle things in the worst possible way, over and over again. As a result, we find ourselves always lingering down that judgmental line about our own people.

It is perfectly natural to feel let down and ashamed when we see our people behaving in ways that are greedy, selfish, violent and insensible, but there are also ways to channel these disappointments without sinking to the level of ignorance. Once we can achieve that—and we may need to do it every day, as part of our daily self-care—we can begin to consider ways that we might help the situation in which our island finds itself.

As always, we should start with ourselves, utilizing our awareness of the failings of others to renew our own commitment to be more conscious human beings. We are all capable of the best and the worst that mankind has to offer, and remembering this keeps us in check, as well as allowing us to find compassion for others.

Whatever the case, the only thing we can do is pledge to serve the best, rather than the worst, of what mankind has to offer – both in the world, our island, and in ourselves.

Despite my hopeless decision to bet on the Phoenix Suns to win the Basketball game last night. Where phoenix lost by five points, but that didn’t cause me distress because I knew I was taking a gamble on Phoenix to win in San Antonio. And thats what life is all about, taking chances – you will not always win. As the saying goes “you win some and you loss some.”

So in that sense I was guaranteed victory simply by doing my taking a chance, regardless of how badly outmatched Phoenix was against the San Antonio Spurs .

The only way to win consistently at life is to regard every situation as a learning experience. That’s the only outcome you can really guarantee. If you make that your primary aim, losing becomes impossible.

Even though a game of basketball might seem an unfair comparison to life, but it’s the same principle at work. A bigger sting just delivers a more valuable lesson. Not every decision you make in your life will be the right one. Thats why you to need playing (making life choices) helps you learn.
