Just one week after the official opening of the 2009 Carnival Season in Dominica, and National Carnival Parade.
Now one week later it’s the city of Portsmouth to launch their Carnival season with a grand opening parade along the Michael Douglas Boulevard and through the streets of Portsmouth.
For those who don’t know – Portsmouth is the former capital of Dominica and, with about 3000 inhabitants; Portsmouth is the second largest town of Dominica. It lies on the Indian River in the north of the island, part of the Saint John Parish. Cabrits National Park is located on a peninsula to the north of town.
Over the years, Portsmouth Carnival opening has developed into one of the premier carnival openings around Dominica, which attracts thousands of revelers from all over Dominica wanting to be apart of the parade.
Despite the late start, hundreds of spectators stayed to catch a glimpse of the opening parade. And with the local MFR Band serenading the massive crowd – made Portsmouth Carnival opening one to be remembered.
