Senior Counsel Tony Astaphan has defended a decision to appeal a judgment in a matter, which involves former Aid Bank employee, Mavis Williams.

The matter has been taken to the East Caribbean Supreme Court of Appeal, after a judge ruled that she should receive 1.2 million dollars for wrongful dismissal in 2000.Mr. Astaphan, says, the former bank employee is entitled to far less than what was awarded by the court.

We wanted to appeal the judgment on liability because we thought is was manifested wrong, unfortunately the bank waited to long to decide to appeal and we paid the price for that, in addition to that we just feel that is our personal and professional view at this time that the judgment was manifested wrong.

Meantime the East Caribbean Supreme Court of Appeal last week asked the Aid bank to pay miss Williams 50,000 dollars. The court matter challenging the 1.2 million dollars will be heard later this year.
