Morgan Heritage at the World Creole Music Festival

The World Creole Music Festival (WCMF)was conceived out of a need to provide a stage for Dominican Musician and musical expressions, and to increase Dominica’s visibility overseas.

Held during the last weekend in October, and now in it’s thirteenth year, the 3-night festival has grown to one of the only truly indigenous music event in Dominica and the Eastern Caribbean.

The creole festival has attracted some of the most renowned musical groups and soloists from the creole-speaking world. Groups such as Ti-Vice, First Serenade, Zouk Machine, Magnum Band, Zin, Taxi Creole, Kassav, Tabou Combo, Exile One, Gramacks/New Generation, WCK, Carimi among others as well as solo artists like Sakis, Ophelia, Tania St. Valle, and Franky Vincent have thrilled festival audiences over the years.

And this year the WCMF was no different; we at Dominica-weekly had the opportunity to checkout night two of the thirteen World Creole Music Festival – which featured bands like Morgan Heritage – who put on a phenomenal performance, Sweet Mickey, Caribbean Vibes, Triple Kay band, and Dlux Band.

Here are some highlight moments, and a short video from night-two of the 13th Annual Creole Music Festival.

P.S. Just maybe…if we can get some help from the Dominica Festivals Commission we will be able to cover all three nights of the festival next year.

One of the more highly publicized actors on night two of the 2008 World Creole Music Festival was Jamaican Dancehall Superstar Sean Paul. With various hits making the Top Ten Rap Billboard Charts, Dominicans and visitors alike were anticipating a sensational performance from the “Dancehall Superstar”.

While some people might disagree with me, but I personally believe that Sean Paul performance at the second night of the festival was merely dismal performance. He was unable to huge crowd involved, plus the music quality was a poor standard –too loud at times. All-in-all the performance was just not to par and somewhat disappointing. I’m hoping the festival Commission Committee take serious note.

Lets us know whats your thoughts of Sean Paul’s performance in the comments.

Nevertheless, here is short video of Sean Paul performing his hit song “Give it up to me” …Enjoy ❗

Some of other bands who performed on the opening night were Grammacks –the New Generation, Oliver N’Goma, Nasio Fontaine, and WCK.

This is maybe Carimi’s third or fourth appearance at the WCMF, and with hits like “Player,” “Chagrin Criminel,””Are You Ready,” and “I Wanna Be” has been topping the charts all over the world in places such as Haiti, Guadaloupe, Paris, and of course Dominica.

So if you’re fan of Carimi, but couldn’t make it to the Creole Festival this year, here is small taste of what you missed on the opening of the 2008 World Creole Music Festival…Enjoy!
